How can a permanent space with history adapt to encourage openness among a diverse community?

To promote immersive language learning, the Alliance Française de Chicago invites visitors to openly engage with others. Setting the example, Overture unlatches the building facade and makes the activities of the organization visible from the street.

The proposed temporary installation takes the counterpoint and conceals the building within an image of its facade. The windows are hidden by an image of the same windows, allowing passers-by only a glimpse of the entry way. From inside, one is provoked to reflect on their temporary condition, disconnected from their surroundings.
